Re: 10 Desert Island Books
They are great books aren’t they ? I’ve got the Austria one. Massively useful amounts of detail for the time
Re: 10 Desert Island Books
I've got the reprints. Very handy.

The Greenwood and Ball booklets are a great source of info. I used the Prussian one to paint up my plastic Spencer Smith's in 1975/76.
I think there was a Russian one produced as well.

Yes, the Russian one came much later I think. They were so much better than the Osprey books.

Book 7 - Instrument of War and Force if Arms.
There had to be a book by Christopher Duffy and up to a few years ago it would have been the 1st edition of Frederick the Greats army. Then this two volume set came out. The 2nd Volume - by Force of Arms - is the better of the two as it covers the campaigns and battles of the SYW.

Funny just reading the 2nd ed Frederick book, and waiting for instrument of war to arrive.

My main take so far is what a truly horrible human being he was.
Re: 10 Desert Island Books
Book One - Charge. The best book ever written. And it still smells great.
Book Two - 1815: The Armies at Waterloo, Ugo Pericoli. A truly awesome book.
Book Three - European Weapons & Warfare 1618 - 1648, Eduard Wagner. Wonderful illustrations.
Book Four - Firepower (with a crafty friend), Major General B P Hughes. Proved to be a bit of an eye-opener.
Book Five - Uniforms of the Seven Years War, Greenwood & Ball. Couldn't believe my luck when these came out.
Book Six - Military Uniforms of the World, Blandford. I could only dream of having armies in these uniforms. Now I can.

So good I bought it twice. One for reading, one to paint from
