I would go with either plasicard or the plastic bristles from a brush for 2 reasons.

1. Being plastic they are bendy and there is less chance of them pinging off as with metal ones.

2. You are less likely to skewer yourself on the pike block.

The other good thing about bristles is that you can make a spear point by squeezing the end with some smooth face pliers and trim to a point with a scalpel.

That explains it - you've always had such a smooth face.

I just buy my pikes/spears from most any figure seller. I think I mostly buy the Artizan ones, there's a trade stand I go to at shows. They come in 50mm and 100mm. Northstar will have them. Scotiagrendel did too when I was looking at Xyston Macedonians, the DbA boxes. Looking! Didn't buy!

Like Tim, I buy my spears from there as well. Well worth it.

Tim, I have the Xyston Macedonians, they’re gorgeous. Don’t resist! Give in to the Dark Side!

Most of the sellers at shows sell 1mm spears which are a bit thick I think for smaller than 28mm figures. Donnington sell smaller gauge ones which are nice.

On the alternate hand, other players tend to treat your figures with more respect after they’ve slipped a metal pike between flesh and fingernail. I’ve found

Wargames mate of mine used to be a medical technician and used hypodermic needles for his 15mm lances. The number of times he picked up a WRG Cataphract element with the palm of his hand and no fingers needed
