Yes. There's some character, whose name escapes me, over at tmp who, usually in a superior way, extols his perfect simulations of post-WW2 warfare.
Good luck to him but they seem pedantic, joyless and tedious.

I'm with Iain. "Fun" is by no means an unimportant objective.

I know the chap of whom you speak. He runs "simulations", not games. It amuses me when he tells veterans (US, UK) that they've been doing it wrong.

It's been a long time since I've played it, but my beef with Rapid Fire was that artillery killed a set number of men, depending on the number rolled and it was rarely less than 1. So the trick was to find an isolated, high-value target such as an artillery FOO or HQ and then stonk him, as you were almost guaranteed to kill it. If a regimental parade, performing close-order drill was in the same impact area, you'd still only kill 1 bloke.

Targeting FAOs & FOOs is an issue in BKC too.
Any suggestions as to changing this rather unrealistic precision?

I don't want to be critical of other people's ideas of "fun" but he's a bit sanctimonious on top of it & kind of invites fairly hostile thoughts.

I am very sure that there'd be folk who'd scoff over how I run my games....& probably with some justification.

Change the effects of a hit to causing suppression for a turn? That'll hurt a bit with both FOOs and HQs.

Instead of an artillery attack killing a set number of units/figures within the beaten zone, roll for each unit/figure within the beaten zone. That's a FAR better method.

If they're on their own, then bad luck. If they're with other troops then allocate hits proportionately. We've never found it a major problem. In any case IRL there were high casualty rates, particularly amongst FOO's, as they were by necessity up at the sharp end.

There’s a new cut down version just out called Rapid Fire Reloaded which cuts out tables and goes for dice instead

Thank you Clive. I've got those cut down rules.
