I wonder. At Kölin and Kunersdorf it seemed he got his army on the field but left his ideas behind, so tried the same old trick again. Zorndorf is just a mystery to me. Why attack such a strong position when he could have picked better ground for himself and let the Russians come to him?

I've always presumed that he thought he'd get away with attacking their rear... Because that worked at Kolin...
I suspect that Fred, like Napoleon, had his off days, which could sometimes coincide with his "these guys are shite, let's just walk up and sweep them aside" arrogant days. It's a very, very good general who never underestimates the enemy and never overestimates his own men.

Agreed, Baron. Everyone has an off day. But from 1760 or so Fred seems to have lost his tactical acumen. He keeps trying the same old tactics, whether they were applicable or not, and whether his troops were up to it or not.
Doesn't really matter as he left us a lot of good uniforms and some excellent battle scenarios to use.
Anyway, the first orders have arrived for the Bohemia Campaign! The game is afoot!

Anyway, in the first week of Fred's invasion, the two sides have completely failed to encounter each other, even around Gabel and Reichenberg, where they were in adjacent map-nodes...
