Dice holder for a D20
Re: Dice holder for a D20
The base is good but your maths is a bit off
Re: Dice holder for a D20
Have you been on the happy juice, Donald?
Re: Dice holder for a D20
?
In a unit, a base has four figures so a red dice 2 = 8 figures casualties. The white dice for singles up to 3. It's 1 casualty.
This totals @ 9 figures hors de combat. A single unit may have 16 (4 bases), 20 (5 bases) or 24 (6 bases) of figures.
If I wanted to show, say, 23 casualties on a latter unit (though in reality the unit would be removed before this), I'd use a red dice showing '5' and a white dice showing '3'.
My maths is OK, even if I don't teach it. Was my explanation fuzzy? That's a worry because I do teach language.

Out of interest (??) although we use a Base 10 maths system, this is arbitrary. The Babylonians used a Base 60:

My system, above, is a Base 4 system. Mathematically sound, I'd have thought......don't confuse a figure base with a maths' number base, though.

Re: Dice holder for a D20
To be consistent, in maths terms each spot on the red die is worth 4, & on white each spot is worth 1/2, rounding up the fraction (so 1-2 = 1, 3-4 =2, 5-6 = 3), although I realise that you're just using the 1-3 sides, because it's the real world! Mathematically it works elegantly enough.
Re: Dice holder for a D20
If you've got 24 man units....wouldn't just 2 D6 be adequate?? What game is you're playing that allows your units to take more than 50% casualties and still be functioning on the gaming table??
Also...couldn't you just use 4 x D6 = 24?? Why a D20....not sure if it makes sense to me

Re: Dice holder for a D20
More of a morale clock rather than straight KIAs. For a rule set I'm currently writing. Strictly to be used in the Privacy of My Home. I'm still groping to find a term for what it measures - W2F? (Will to Fight)is my current best option & better than "casualties" but I'm still not proud of it.
If 1 dice is table clutter, what are 4?
Yes, all very quirky, I know. I appreciate your interest & I assure you I am seeking treatment.

WTF is a great acronym for this whole thread
Re: Dice holder for a D20
What about simply 'shock'....like the TFL rules use?
Why reinvent the wheel...but instead of being round, it's a weird pentacontagon shape??

Although TFL did reinvent the wheel of disruption points and call them shock….
Re: Dice holder for a D20
Exactly...it works, so why even try to re-reinvent it
