The Mainz 'Lamberg' Regiment (18mm SYW)

Post by RMD »

This is a fairly obscure unit, being raised by the Archbishop-Elector of Mainz at Austrian expense, for service with the Austrian army. Like the more famous Wurzburg 'Red' Regiment, it often gets described as a regiment of the Reichsarmee, but wasn't raised as such, even though it did eventually end up assigned to the Reichsarmee. There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!

It's a good looking regiment, mate. Mike Broadbent, who sculpted the Eureka range, is impressed. The colours look good as well.

I understand what you mean about researching the uniforms- just look at the fun I had getting access to the Delacre Bilderhandschrift. If you're really curious about the uniforms, I've had a fair bit of success in contacting local museums and getting information. The Kurmainz local museum is the Tauberfränkisches Landschaftsmuseum im Kurmainzischen Schloss http://www.tauberfraenkisches-landschaf ... zeiten.htm E-Mail: g.wamser@gmx.net. Why not ask if there are any period portraits of Graf von Lamberg, Lieutenant-Colonel Baron von Herstall or one of the other officers in uniform? If so, are any photos of the portrait on line?
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

Thanks fellas!

Dal, I think you're forgetting that deep down, I'm a lazy bastard. ;)

You have however, just reminded me that I forgot to add the portrait of Lamberg, which I found on the Christie's website. Sadly it depicts him wearing a cuirassier uniform.

Lovely looking unit, and rather nice little musketeer figures.

Cheers. Yeah, it's the first unit I've done with the Eureka Austrians and they're lovely. I've painted the Eureka Prussians, French and British infantry figures and I think these are my favourite.

I've edited the page to add Lamberg's portrait.

Good stuff, mate. Grumpy old bugger, looks like. Pity he's dressed as a horse botherer, but you know what those enlightened aristocrats are like.
