I've always presumed that he thought he'd get away with attacking their rear... Because that worked at Kolin...Spanner wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:33 amI wonder. At Kölin and Kunersdorf it seemed he got his army on the field but left his ideas behind, so tried the same old trick again. Zorndorf is just a mystery to me. Why attack such a strong position when he could have picked better ground for himself and let the Russians come to him?Fred TRIED going for finesse
Sorry, straying off topic. Have you re-fought the battle yet?

I suspect that Fred, like Napoleon, had his off days, which could sometimes coincide with his "these guys are shite, let's just walk up and sweep them aside" arrogant days. It's a very, very good general who never underestimates the enemy and never overestimates his own men.

Anyway, the first orders have arrived for the Bohemia Campaign! The game is afoot!

Agreed, Baron. Everyone has an off day. But from 1760 or so Fred seems to have lost his tactical acumen. He keeps trying the same old tactics, whether they were applicable or not, and whether his troops were up to it or not.
Doesn't really matter as he left us a lot of good uniforms and some excellent battle scenarios to use.

So what's your cunning plan? We won't tell anyone.Anyway, the first orders have arrived for the Bohemia Campaign! The game is afoot!
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

It's based on the old Age of Reason 'Bohemian Blitzkrieg' campaign, but I've completely re-drawn the map, revamped the rules, changed the orbats...Spanner wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 12:24 am Agreed, Baron. Anyway, in the first week of Fred's invasion, the two sides have completely failed to encounter each other, even around Gabel and Reichenberg, where they were in adjacent map-nodes...

Not familiar with that one, mate, though I've seen it around. Done a bit of tweaking to it, then? It's based on the old Age of Reason 'Bohemian Blitzkrieg' campaign, but I've completely re-drawn the map, revamped the rules, changed the orbats...
:o Didn't anyone buy any light troops for scouting? Or is everyone huddled in their magazines, trying to build strength up?Anyway, in the first week of Fred's invasion, the two sides have completely failed to encounter each other, even around Gabel and Reichenberg, where they were in adjacent map-nodes...

Funnily enough, Reichenbach is just up the road, near Bautzen.
