As you point out steel bases and magnetic vinyl can create a very strong air-tight seal if left long enough. Isn't air pressure wonderful? I've learnt to break the seal first by sliding the base a fraction before trying to remove the figures.

I do it that way round as I read somewhere ages ago that magnetic paper can lose it's magnetism over time and it's easier to line a new box than re-do all the bases! I've no idea if that's true or not but I'm not changing now!

Same here, there's no real cosmetic difference so it's better to ere on the side of caution.

I found a quite large roll of sticky magnetic tape in Poundland. Guess how much it cost.

In the interests of science I’ve been experimenting with it today and I conclude it would be ok for card counters (indoors, not out) but do not trust your figures to it.
