Pikes did skirmish of course, there's accounts of it during the ECW and from the methods of training for Swiss pike. :P

Alexander trained his Hypaspists to do both. Of course, they dropped the pike when skirmishing in favor of a long spear

I reckon that with a dagger and a light shield I could make mincemeat of a skirmishing piker.

interesting observation. So maybe it would make more sense for the pikemen to stand closer together. And perhaps take advantage of the reach of their weapons ?

Exactly, one on one, even with one leg, I'd kill the bugger. 100 on 100, they are invincible.

Skirmishing pike is too mainstream.

I don’t regard any ruleset as complete unless it includes rules for Thrown Pike.
